Latest Updates from Our Project:

Updated Print & Play, Updated Timeline
about 9 years ago – Fri, Mar 17, 2017 at 12:29:17 AM

Hi backers!

We're just back from PAX East where we demoed Alchemy! and met a lot of cool people! But we came out of it pretty exhausted.

Now that we've had time to catch our breath - we've updated the Print & Play files to include the release text and images, and the release rulebook with art! If you've lost the link here it is again.

Release Timeline:

We tried our best but it looks like we may be delivering Crown of Exile more than a month later than we had hoped. Our latest estimate from our production partners at Jansy say production will complete around April 26, with games arriving at our warehouse about a month later. Past experience has taught me to expect between 2 and 4 weeks to get the game into everyone's hands once the warehouse and fulfillment company has received it, so that means that the vast majority of you should have the game in hand by June.

Of course we're sorry for the delay, and we appreciate your patience. If anyone has concerns please don't hesitate to email.

Print & Play
about 9 years ago – Sat, Jan 21, 2017 at 05:06:49 PM

Hi folks- we've begun updating our print & play now that production of the first factory prototype is underway.

Expect an update to the print & play in the next couple of days with the production versions of all of the cards in stunning CMYK color space to make printing easier. Don't worry! I'm including backs! I'm sorry I keep forgetting to do that.

In the meantime here's a fun thing I've been having our awesome artist work on. It's a significant update to my previous game adding some new art and changing a few things based on feedback from the first edition.

To Production!
over 9 years ago – Mon, Dec 19, 2016 at 07:27:53 PM

And we're off! Crown of Exile is now going into production a little later than we had hoped, but still on track for April delivery (we were hoping to have it for PAX East).

We don't need anything from you guys at this time, but I wanted to mention that we're getting a lot of messages and emails from people asking if I have their right address. If you're concerned you can follow the backerkit link that should be in your inbox (or go to backerkit.com and punch in your info, I believe it will find you) and update your address.

Some of you have said you're moving and aren't sure where you'll be when the game gets shipped to you. Have no fear! I won't be locking down addresses in backerkit until shortly before we actually ship- and you'll be able to update until then.

And with that here's some art you haven't seen yet:

 Happy Monday!

Quest Card Update! Art Wrapped Up!
over 9 years ago – Tue, Nov 29, 2016 at 07:52:48 PM

First off, for those of you who are waiting on the Print & Play updates - a new set of quest cards with updated art are now available in the google drive folder with all of the other print & play files. Here are a few of my favorites:

For those of you who paid attention to stretch goals - we had to completely redesign the format for quests when unique art was unlocked and the project's artists went into overdrive over the last months generating the illustrations on each one. I hope you guys are as proud of how they look as I am. This is a direct result of your enthusiastic support and funding.

Game art is wrapped up in its entirety - we're now finalizing layout on the rulebook and the box and then we'll be kicking off delivery.

We're working with Jansy to produce these and according to their timeline if we can get them final production files by early to mid December we should be right on schedule, so it looks good. We may even have a few factory quality samples in time for PAX East (where we're securing a booth presently).

If anyone has questions about the production schedule, needs to update their backerkit survey or has other questions please drop me a line at [email protected] - I check here periodically but not nearly as often.

Crown of Exile News: Boston FIG, Preorders, Art!
over 9 years ago – Thu, Sep 08, 2016 at 11:30:28 PM

Apologies for the break between updates folks! We've been running ourselves ragged playtesting the new house cards and completing artwork on the new additions to the game added as stretch goals.

Because updates seem to be falling by the wayside we're going to try to do fewer with greater consistency and more content- roughly once a month. Here's what we've got for September:

BOSTON FESTIVAL OF INDIE GAMES:

We're back at Boston FIG this Saturday, September 10th

You can stop by and play Alchemy! or Crown of Exile with us throughout the day if you're local. We'll be at table T1 right at the entrance to the main hall for board games. We owe a lot to Boston FIG who gave us our very first award for Alchemy! back in 2014. This year we're not showing anything new but we'd love to talk to you and even discuss what's in store post Crown of Exile.

New Art, New Artists!

We've brought a couple of very talented folks on to help us finish the new card art. Iris Hopp and Kindra Haugen are both producing incredible work - they'll be working on the additional domain cards, house cards and quest art that was added throughout the Kickstarter. Here are a couple of samples from their most recent rounds of work:

Production Update:

Physical production has yet to begin but as you can see above we're going full tilt on art. Here's what we're doing on a regular basis as well as a general status update on where things stand.

  • Between 6 and 8 new pieces of artwork a week are coming in from both Iris and Kindra.
  • 80% of house cards are locked in as far as mechanics and information gathered from backers- we're still playtesting (see below) so some may change if we discover breaks.
  • A few of our super backers from Alchemy! have volunteered to run playtests for us that have just started up. I'll mention them by name if they want to be mentioned :)
  • Those of you who volunteered to playtest house cards will be hearing from us soon (and you can still volunteer if you'd like - email [email protected]) - we were waiting to get more of the cards in and now we're about ready to test.
  • We estimate roughly a 3 month time from when production starts to actual ship date- so we're pretty well on track.

PREORDERS:

Still with us? Ok- we're kicking off preorders just in time for Boston FIG! Please share the following link with everyone and anyone!

https://crown-of-exile-restore-order-claim-power.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

The page will be changed after this weekend to reflect this and make preorders available to anyone who drops by.

The Usurpers Mini-Expansion:

Sad news on this front. Between the quest art and the production deadlines it seems like Usurpers will likely push the ship date past where we've promised it would be. Nonetheless, I've got some ideas for it and I'm hoping to put it up in a P&P after the game has shipped... and who knows what I can pull together in the future. I'm sad about it, but there's nothing stopping it from seeing the light of the day in the future.

Ok! that's the update. I hope to see some of you at Boston FIG. To the rest- thanks for your continued support and we hope you're looking forward to Crown of Exile as much as we are!
